Cinque Ports Rugby History

Cinque Ports Rugby was born in 2006 when Peter Silk, Marcus Davies and Feargal Coffey decided a new progressive club was needed in Hastings.
How right they were !!!

Peter Silk

Peter was a member of Hastings & Bexhill RFC for many years both as a player and as secretary helping to run the club. He ended his H&B career as Chairman after beating Marcus in a club election. He brought his rugby experience and business acumen to CPR and together with his enthusiasm has driven our club forward. He is currently busy with negotiation aimed at getting a ground and clubhouse for us

Marcus Davies

Marcus  was also a member of H&B. He was 3rd Team Captain from 1990 to 2006, he coached a group of youngsters all the way from U11 to Colts(U18) producing the best Colts side H&B had for ages. He brought his coaching experience and passion for rugby to CPR and is our first Chairman. He has been a driving force behind the development of our club over its existence. He is helping Peter with the Clubhouse negotiations.

Feargal Coffey

Feargal is the last of the three stooges. He played for H&B 3rds till a car crash put paid to his playing career. He played a large part in the club’s first year. After moving to London Irish RFC he is Press Officer for their amateur sides in Sunbury.

The First Season

2006-2007

When the club was formed we had no players - only the 3 stooges. After many nights waiting for people to come and join, the grizzled trio had their first players and training could start led by our esteemed chairman Marcus.

The first season was spent playing friendlies against opposition from Kent and Sussex.  We developed a reputation for never giving up till the final whistle had gone, something we are well known for now. The most notable match of the first season was a 58 – 51 defeat to Uckfield 2s – probably the most prolificly scoring game so far.
